That's a great article, I will definitely use the tips. I've always wanted to be able to speed read and retain everything I'm covering, but I've never taken the time to learn how to do so. This seems like a good starting place though!

I notice that you have Abby Marks Beale book "10 Days to Faster Reading" on your list of reading materials. She just published a new book "The Complete Idiot's Guide to Speed Reading". It is amazing. I got an advance copy through an inside source and improved my reading speed appreciably just following the basic steps outlined in the book.

Anyone interested in increasing their reading and comprehension speed will find this book a MUST HAVE.

Fantastic article -- as someone who reads more than 100 business books every year I get asked all the time: "How do you read so fast and remember what you have read?" You nailed it on this post -- this has all of the things I do -- a focused reason WHY I am reading the book - WHAT information am I looking for? I also underline and write personal notes to myself and have developed some special codes to help me understand what I am learning -- what the information means to me -- how I can use it -- what patterns I see emerging. If I really like a book -- I will give it to my assistant and ask her to type out just the parts I have underlined... then... I will re-read the underlining and sometimes also read it into a recorder -- burn it to a CD and listen to it in my car. Believe me -- after all of that you not only know what is in the book -- you understand it -- and can apply it!!! But I only do that for the really great books, which leads me to another point... if I get 50 or 60 pages into a book and I have not underlined anything = I put it down and donate it to the library. I do not want to beat my head against the wall and waste time on something that is not fun to read and adding no value. Great info -- I will link to this from my site!
