A New Look for the PMBA
As you can see, I’ve been busy making a lot of changes and updates to the PMBA that I think you’ll enjoy. Some you can see right now… others will be launching very soon!
We have a blog!
Previously, the PMBA existed only as a manifesto on my personal website and the PMBA forums. While the forums were (and are) a great place to discuss what’s new, many people were craving a better way to keep up with the PMBA over time. By subscribing to this blog via RSS or e-mail, you can get the good stuff without having to wade through pages of new forum posts.
A Thriving Community
As many of us have learned over the past year and a half, it’s one thing to think the PMBA is a grand idea, and quite another to commit to the time and energy required to sit down and read every single day.
42 books is a lot. It’s easy to start when you’re gung-ho about the idea. The first few books go pretty quickly. Then reality sets in: it’s much more difficult to keep going when the initial burst of motivation inevitably dries up.
Over the past year and a half, I’ve learned quite a few things about forming positive habits and maintaining motivation over the long haul. One of the biggest things I’ve learned is the power of community: having a group of people support and encourage you along the way.
One of my (many) goals for 2007 is to build a thriving community around the Personal MBA. We already have a good start with the forums, but I want to take things to the next level.
This blog is about you!
In this blog, outside of the normal discussion of business concepts, I’d really like to focus on you - all of the people around the world who find the PMBA interesting and useful. One way we’ll do that is by regularly featuring stories about PMBA members.
Here are a few of the things that will be included in member stories:
- Who are you, and what do you do?
- What cool projects are you working on?
- What are you interested in learning right now?
- What are you reading at the moment? Why?
- What help do you need from other members?
If you’re interested in being profiled on the site, e-mail me at josh [at] joshkaufman.net. We’ll do a quick interview, and your story will be posted ASAP. I’d also be happy to link to your LinkedIn profile or website to spread the word about what you’re doing.
Progress Report: PMBA 2007
I’m hard at work on creating the next generation of the Personal MBA reading list. I’ve unearthed several fantastic new books, and I’m excited to share them with you.
Right now, I’m in my last phase of culling down the list. (I’ve already gone through over 20 revisions of the new version.) I’m feeling pretty good about the result of my new research, but there are a few books I want to look at in more depth before formally recommending them.
Once I have the list finalized, all I need to do is write new book descriptions, a new introduction to explain the changes, and prepare the new material for publication. I’m emphasizing quality over speed, but I’m really excited about the revisions and seem to be on a roll lately… expect to see the new list shortly.
Work in progress…
I’m actively building the blog… if something’s broken, please let me know and I’ll fix it ASAP. Thanks!
That’s all for now - send me an e-mail if you’d like to be profiled on personalmba.com!
