I've had a ton of success with TaskUs (http://www.taskus.com). They're Santa Monica-based, and they essentially serve as a middle man between you and various firms they've got good track records with according to task. Because their administrators are US-based, the processing of your task is crystal-clear; they also guarantee their work.

I had them data mine my Facebook account (1700 contacts), merge it with a 10-year-old Excel contact list (2500 contacts), clean it up (kill dupes, update email addresses, merge rows) and sync it with my Gmail. Now my G1 phone basically has all the info (birthday, notes, phone, email) of any person I've ever met.

The whole project was less than $100, took less than 2 days, and I had a guy in California on call / giving me updates the whole time.

Hi Josh,

Thanks, this is a helpful post. I admire your ongoing efforts to seek improvement. I am going to follow you with the VA plunge... (btw, I really like your clean blog page layout; i.e., the bullets, organization, yellow emphasis!)

We spoke a couple weeks ago...I am interested in "open source certifications" (e.g., like personal mba but for certifications). We talked a bit about webinars. fyi, I just hosted my first global webinar, 70 attendees, i do that every other week now. I used gotowebinar, it worked very well for a first run. i started 6 am my time but had attendees at midnight in Singapore. It is very exciting that technology is allowing real time collaboration without regard to time/space..the opportunities for learning (like personal MBA) are incredible!!

Thanks for sharing these advices with us, Josh !
I discovered outsourcing with the 4 hours workweek too, and hired the translator of my blog on Elance. But there are far less opportunities when it come to hire French speaking assistants : on the English sites they are rare, and in France we have far less platforms for outsourcing, and they are less matures too.
