When i was in boy scout camp many summers ago there was, as part of the water carnival, a three man (or boy) row boat race. Teams always picked their three strongest rowers and one rower alternated from right to left in an attempt to correct course and keep the boat moving straight. In this case... too many rowers. I sussed this up and proposed a novel approach. I, being one of the smallest in our troop, would sit at the stern and steer. Our two strongest rowers would row. We crushed the field by a long shot and won handily.
