Good projects, 52 books in 52weeks...it's hard and it take a lot of time but if you suceed, you'll learn a lot in only 52weeks ;).

We know each other, but we didn't have already talk a lot.I was searching for a list of books about self improvement...thanks for this. I'll try to read somes of the 52's list after finishing the one i'm already reading about Style. But i think it will take to me lot more than 52 weeks.

See you soon,
Pierre.

Evan, I think the advice from 10 Days to Faster Reading is good, but you should use post-its instead of writing in the outer margin because 1) often the margin are not wide and you can't write a lot 2) this way you don't damage the book and 3) it is easier to scan the book for yours notes :) .

I've found that following the advice in 10 Days to Faster Reading of marking passages in the outer margin and making a quick note (few words) on why you're marking it is helpful, especially when reviewing the book for points/ideas. It doesn't slow me down very much at all.

All it takes is getting over the decades-long institutionalization of not writing in your books! :-)

Nigel, 800 CEO read sent me their book - it contain really small resumes of 100 hundred businesses books - some of them are in the PMBA list. It's great to scan in order to find the books you want to read, but the resumes are really really light. As we already have a great list of businesses books with the PMBA, I think it is not really useful for most PMBA students :)

Tom - I think it's fine if you don't have time to write a full-blown summary, but I would at a minimum have a journal close by to write down concepts, techniques and ideas that occur to you as you read. Externalization is a very powerful way to cement knowledge in your long-term memory, as well as help you generate new ideas.

Hello Tom,

Yes, it is true that it take a lot of time to summarize, but I really advice to do at least a one paragraph summary for each chapter, or even just dot point with the main ideas and actions to do.

At least, when you read I advice that you take notes in live on Post-it and post them in your book. It is what I do, and this way I can quickly scan a book I already read to reread the passages that I considered the most important - it helps me for summarize too ! ;)

I'm happy that you think my summaries are piece of reference, thank you :) , but nothing beat YOUR summary when it came to fully understand and learn ideas.

While I am fully aware of the fact that you take a lot more out of a book when you summarise the contents, I must admit that I just haven't got the time to do AND the reading AND the summarising unfortunately. I made the choice to try and read a lot of the books. Is this the wrong decision you think? I am grateful that Olivier is taking the time to do the summarising and it is a great piece of reference material to fall back on in future.
