I finished undergrad in 5 semesters and have always looked back on it as a very smart decision. Optimizing my time saved me a lot of money. I am grateful that I never took student loans. Great post!

Hey Josh,

I don't think college is a waste of time, but I do think it makes sense in certain situations and not in others. I wrote an essay about it that explains my thoughts on it here:

http://gannonbeck.com/2007/04/07/to-degree-or-not-to-degree-that-is-the-question

I can't fathom a situation (for me or anyone I've ever met) where it makes sense to pay Harvard prices.

By the way, I had another idea/question, that I'll send you offlline.

I spent seven years getting my undergraduate degree. The reason for this is I was earning my way through university by working for the federal government designing and developing computer systems and teaching computing, English and geographic information systems to honors students at the university itself. I learned more working at these jobs than I did earning my piece of paper from my alma mater.

My advice is as soon as possible get a job that complements the discipline you are pursuing for your undergraduate studies. That's where the real learning takes place.
