I’m happy to announce that I’ll be working with the fine folks at Portfolio to publish a book related to the Personal MBA. After so many years of reading, researching, and recommending the best business books in print, it’s time to write one of my own, and the Portfolio team is the best in the business. I’m really looking forward to writing a book you’ll find both interesting and useful.
Many thanks to Lisa DiMona for her knowledge and expertise in negotiating the deal, to Todd Sattersten and Jack Covert of 800-CEO-READ for generously introducing me to the Portfolio team, and to Seth Godin for (1) the inspiration to create the PMBA, and (2) hosting the event in Manhattan where the fateful introduction took place.
I’m also thrilled to be working with the illustrious David Moldawer at Portfolio, whose editorial expertise will ensure the book is entertaining, educational, and edifying.
What’s the book about?
Less than 1% of business-related concepts account for 99%+ of the value of business study. These critical concepts, which I refer to as “business mental models,” provide a firm foundation that anyone can use to take advantage of business opportunities and make better decisions, even if they don’t yet have an advanced degree or personal experience with the issue at hand.
This book is the first comprehensive collection of business mental models anyone can use to make better business decisions. By focusing on the practical fundamentals of business knowledge, this book will teach the reader what successful business professionals typically learn via decades of trial-and-error and hard-won experience.
When can I get it?
The goal is to have this book available by mid-to-late summer of 2010. Publishing schedules are subject to change, but I’m doing my best to get this book into your hands as quickly as possible. Congratulations, Josh! I’ve been intrigued by your business mental models concept since I first saw it on your sites and it’s exciting that it’s been picked up by an editor and outside publisher.

Also great to hear you have the guys at 800-CEO-READ on your team — I just finished reading their newest book “100 best business books” it was fantastic and I’m proud to say that I had already read 92 of them! I have just gotten the copy-edited version of my manuscript back from the folks at Jossey-Bass — it goes into production next and will be on bookshelves nationwide September of this year — I’ll keep you in the loop, hopefully I will be able to earn a position on your recommended book list.
